Wolves summer target set for transfer as Liverpool weigh up shock swoop & Arsenal close to double deal – Premier League rumours

Late move?

Wolverhampton Wanderers were heavily linked with Lazio defender Wallace during the transfer window.

The 24-year-old was touted with a switch to Molineux throughout the summer and it was even suggested that a deal was due to be completed in the final week ahead of the deadline.

Wallace is a client of super-agent Jorge Mendes, who continues to help Wolves with transfer dealings, and speculation was turned up a notch after the Brazilian left Lazio’s training camp early just days before the window closed.

No deal was forthcoming, though, and Wallace stayed put, remaining with the Serie A side.

However, he is yet to make a competitive appearance this season and sources in Italy state that Mendes is working hard to find the centre-back a move.

Corriere Dello Sport report that Mendes has contacted Valencia and Monaco over a potential transfer.

Wallace joined Lazio from Monaco just three years ago but the 24-year-old has moved down the pecking order at the Stadio Olimpico after the arrival of Slovakia international Denis Vavro in July.

A return to Monaco would hardly be a surprising move for Wallace, nor would signing for Valenica – with Mendes wielding influence at both clubs. The window remains open for the majority of European sides until September 2.

Forward was of interest

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ summer transfer window went under the radar to most common observers.

Lavishly backed by FOSUN, many around the country forecast a statement summer at Molineux, as they look to gatecrash the top six.

Arguably that didn’t happen, but Wolves did improve the depth in their squad with a number of smart signings toward the end of the window.

And now another name has emerged that club bosses were interested during the closing weeks of the window.

Spanish news outlet El Desmarque (via Sport Witness ) have suggested that Wolves declared an interest in PSV forward Steven Bergwijn.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a breakout season with the Dutch giants, scoring 15 times and registering a further 13 assists.

Liverpool consider Vorm

Liverpool are contemplating offering a short-term contract to Dutch goalkeeper Michel Vorm, who is out of contract after being released by Tottenham this summer.

With first-choice goalkeeper Alisson likely to be out for another few weeks after injuring his calf against Norwich the Reds are relying on Adrian and veteran former Wolves ‘keeper Andy Lonergan while the Brazilian recovers.

Vorm was second choice to Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris for five seasons at the club, and Liverpool are tempted to bring him in as an emergency back-up.

Goalkeeper coach John Achterberg said: “A good third goalie at a top club is not a superfluous luxury, I have always said this. Michel Vorm’s arrival has been discussed.”

New deals for Arsenal pair

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has confirmed the club are currently “working on” new contracts for forwards Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Aubameyang’s existing deal is set to keep him at the Emirates Stadium until 2021, while Lacazette is committed to the club until the end of the following season (2022).

“They are very important players and their contracts need to be in the same balance,” said Emery. It’s one circumstance, one issue now, that the club is working on.

“Edu is here for that reason. There’s also Raul [Sanllehi] and Huss [Fahmy], working with the players for that.

“I want the best for the club and I want the best for the players. I think if the club and they are speaking about that, it’s perfect.”

Hemed leaves Brighton

Tomer Hemed has completed a move from Brighton to Charlton after reaching an agreement to cancel his Brighton contract.

The 32-year-old striker spent last season on loan at QPR, scoring seven goals in 21 Championship appearances.

He first joined Brighton in 2015 and was a key part of the side for three seasons, but has now been allowed to move on.
