Leighton Baines ready to replace Lucas Digne vs Aston Villa

Leighton Baines ready to replace Lucas Digne

Everton fans are still waiting for an official update on the status of Lucas Digne.

Last weekend, Everton beat Watford 1-0 at Goodison Park.

Lucas Digne set up the only goal of the game, as he freed Bernard down the left-hand side.

However, Digne was subbed out of the match in the 73rd-minute with a knock.

After the game, Marco Silva voiced his optimism that Digne’s injury isn’t too serious.

With Digne’s fitness in the balance, Everton could recall Leighton Baines into the XI.

Baines is back in first-team training at Everton following a thigh problem which has kept him sidelined so far this season.

On Baines’ possible Everton comeback, the Liverpool Echo have reported:

Leighton Baines stepped up his return from injury with an extra training session on the day of Everton’s game with Watford.

Baines has been thrust into contention to start against Aston Villa on Friday after Lucas Digne was forced off during Saturday’s match at Goodison with a hamstring problem.

Of course, another potential option is that Fabian Delph could step in at left-back if Digne is injured.

However, Delph is himself on the comeback trail from his own injury problem.

Aston Villa injury report

Dean Smith currently has a few injury issues at Villa Park.

Defender James Chester is a long term absentee with a hamstring issue, while Jonathan Kodjia is also sidelined with an ankle problem.

The only other injury concern is Kortney Hause, who is out with an ankle issue too.

Contrasting form

Everton have begun the season with a draw at Crystal Palace and victory over Watford.

Moreover, Everton are yet to concede a goal in the Premier League this term.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, are searching for their first clean sheet and points.

After losing 3-1 at Tottenham, Villa were beaten 2-1 by Bournemouth last time out.
