What Barcelona expect Real Madrid to do in Neymar transfer battle

Barcelona are expecting an imminent Real Madrid swoop for PSG superstar Neymar, but there could be a twist in the saga.

The Brazil international is now in the middle of a tug-of-war between the two La Liga superpowers.

His days in France look numbered after a series of incidents.

Relations with Neymar and senior figures at PSG are fractured, to say the least.

Following his arrival at PSG’s pre-season training camp earlier this summer, he reportedly became embroiled in an argument with sporting director Leonardo.

Neymar was also caught on camera in an tense standoff with Kylian Mbappe during the Trophee des Champions celebrations.

The France international seemingly forced him out of a team photo after the duo exchanged words.

With his departure from the city of lights looking increasingly likely, it’s now a case of who makes the first move.

According to Catalan daily Mundo Deportivo , Barca reckon Real are ready to show their hand and submit a bid.

However, senior figures in the Nou Camp corridors of power are quietly convinced Neymar wants a move back to Catalonia.

With the Premier League transfer window shut – and Neymar not keen on a move to Italy or Germany – only Barca or Real are viable options.

Los Blancos could do with ditching Gareth Bale before they move for their top target.

Zinedine Zidane has already spent lavishly this summer and needs to start balancing the books.

ESPN pundit Shaka Hislop claims Real could broker a Bale and Neymar swap deal that keep all parties happy.

“I still feel that PSG might be the best fit [for Bale] for a number of reasons,” he said.

“One, I’m still kind of convinced that Neymar would prefer to go to Madrid than Barcelona, that’s just me.

“Maybe it suits Bale similarly [at PSG].

“I don’t think [Bale] can be the player he once was.

“Yeah, because of injuries and once you cross 30 things start to go down a little bit, slowly albeit.

“But maybe in France, given the disparity between PSG and everybody else, he doesn’t have to exert himself in the way that he did in Spain and certainly would have to if he returned to England. I think that makes sense.”
