Wayne Rooney launches foul-mouthed rant at MLS referee and blasts DC United travel plans | Football | Sport

Wayne Rooney, who is set to join Derby as a player-coach, ranted at the fourth official as he was substituted during DC United’s 1-0 loss to Vancouver Whitecaps over the weekend.

The Manchester United legend could be seen getting into the official’s face, repeatedly shouting “every f***ing game” as he left the pitch.

It’s unclear which decisions Rooney was referring to but the striker’s frustrations continued on Twitter.

MLS rules state teams can only charter flights four times a season.

That usually results in just two games despite some journeys being over 2,000 miles.

And Rooney hit out at the rule on social media.

He posted: “Gutted about result last night. We deserved more. Looking forward to a 12 hour travel day which could be done in six but hey this is MLS. We will get ready for Red Bulls Wednesday. #Charterflights”

Despite the loss to Vancouver, Rooney’s DC United are fourth in the Eastern Conference.

The MLS outfit are on the hunt for a replacement for the former Everton man.

They recently held talks with Mesut Ozil’s agent as the German’s Arsenal future remains in doubt.

However, Ozil is said to be far from convinced that the USA is the best place to continue his career.

Ozil has not featured for Arsenal yet this season having been involved in an attempted car-jacking alongside team-mate Sead Kolasinac.

The German then missed Saturday’s 2-1 defeat of Burnley due to illness.

Nicolas Pepe and Dani Ceballos joined the Gunners over the summer, potentially limiting Ozil’s minutes.

But it remains to be seen whether he will stay at the Emirates or not.
