The must reads…
Hegazi, who has been a popular figure since arriving from Al Ahly in 2017, was able to manage the problem but decided to undergo the procedure so that it would eradicate any further complications going forward.
Hegazi, who is expected to be in contention for selection once again on the other side of the September international break, shared a video of himself running on an anti-gravity treadmill as he steps up his rehabilitation.
Slaven Bilic, who is looking forward to being able to utilise Hegazi upon his return, spoke recently of the 28-year-old.
“Hegazi is a very important player for us,” Bilic said.
“He’s had surgery on his ankle. He’s a good healer and a quick healer and he should be back in five or six weeks’ time.
“In that position we aren’t short, but we’re just a little bit…we didn’t want to overload there and then he’d come back, but within the squad we have a few players who can jump in if necessary.”
Albion have been playing Kyle Bartley and new signing Semi Ajayi in the heart of defence in Hegazi’s absence, though the pair await their first clean sheet.
With Craig Dawson sold to Watford this summer, Bilic has involved Dara O’Shea in the match-day squads while Jack Fitzwater made the bench in the Carabao Cup defeat to Millwall.
