Man City’s opener vs Spurs ‘copied’ Eriksen & Alli’s playbook

Pep Guardiola: How Man City copied Tottenham

Towards the end of Pep Guardiola’s press conference after the 2-2 draw with Tottenham, the Man City manager revealed how his side copied a part of the Spurs playbook.

City broke the deadlock on Saturday night when a Kevin De Bruyne cross was headed home at the back stick by Raheem Sterling.

When commenting on that goal, Guardiola said it was a ‘Tottenham goal’:

It looked like we copy from Tottenham. Eriksen to Dele Alli.

Should Kyle Walker-Peters have defended City’s opener better?

Sticking with CIty’s opener, some have criticised Kyle Walker-Peters for failing to stop Sterling from scoring.

After the match, Mauricio Pochettino addressed that issue head-on, saying:

He still needs to improve. When you’re a back-up player, your excitement and motivation is massive when you have the possibility to play.

It’s an amazing opportunity, no? You are focused 200 percent to show you can play, but when you start to feel the responsibility that you are first choice we’ll see how he’s going to behave.

Today I think was a massive test to play against one of the best offensive players like Sterling. The experience will be massive for him.

Man City 2 – Tottenham 2

The big talking point came at the death, as a Gabriel Jesus goal was ruled out for a handball against Aymeric Laporte.

Previously, Lucas Moura levelled the match for Spurs after Man City had twice taken the lead.

After Sterling’s opener, Sergio Aguero scored for City before the break.

Erik Lamela found the target for Spurs in the first-half.
