Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane confirms where Gareth Bale will play this year after saga | Football | Sport
Bale has been linked with a move away from the Spanish capital all summer.
The manager also effectively told Bale he had no future at Real Madrid during pre-season.
But the Welsh winger started Real’s first game of the La Liga season and helped the side to a 3-1 win over Celta Vigo.
“He is going to stay. We have to focus on this season, nothing else,” the coach said.
“Hazard‘s injury is bad luck for us, but it has not changed the idea we had for Bale in this game.
“Gareth, James [Rodriguez] and all the players here are going to defend this shirt.”
Bale set up Karim Benzema for the first goal in the win over Celta Vigo.
Luka Modric was sent off but Toni Kroos and Lucas Vazquez secured the win despite Losada’s late consolation.
And current Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois wants to see Bale continue to play a starring role.
“He is an important player and played a great match,” Courtois said.
“Everyone loves him and it is important that he plays for us. We are so happy with Bale.
“Pre-season was not easy for us, there were games in which we did not play well, but we knew we doing things right.
“We feel good, today we showed that. We played a good game and we went ahead with 10 players. That is key.”
Real Madrid’s next game sees them host Real Valladolid next Saturday.
