Robin van Persie delivers verdict on Dani Ceballos’ full Arsenal debut

Arsenal beat Burnley 2-1 thanks to goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

But it was new boy Ceballos who stole the headlines in the lunchtime kick-off.

The Spain midfielder set up both goals and picked up the Man of the Match award.

And former Gunners striker and BT Sport pundit Van Persie was full of praise for the Real Madrid loanee after the game.

“Ceballos was by far the best player on the pitch. He was making the game, creating, he wanted the ball constantly,” the Dutchman said.

“He was just a joy to watch. He runs a lot. I think the stats tell you as well that he ran the most of all players, so that tells you that he’s alive, he’s there, he wants to play, he wants to create.

“He’s just a very positive player who’s having fun, you can see he’s having fun.”

Fellow ex-Arsenal hero Martin Keown echoed Van Persie’s comments whilst on commentary for BT, insisting Ceballos could be the answer to Emery’s shaky midfield.

“Well it’s been a few years I think since they’ve seen someone this talented in the Arsenal midfield, with the confidence, panache, vision and desire to get on the ball,” Keown remarked.

“He looks a good prospect, certainly at home. If he can produce that away from home, then Arsenal really will have all their prayers answered this season.

“I think it’s a good while since we saw a debut that good from an Arsenal player.

“I think he’s excellent, a really good addition to the group. Hopefully he’s going to have a big future at Arsenal, he’s been miles ahead of anyone else in this game as Man of the Match today.’

Also on screen with BT Sport, former Chelsea and England midfielder Joe Cole backed up his co-hosts comments on Ceballos.

He said: “I second that. We all had eyes on him today, he looked so comfortable on the ball, switching play, had a little bit of bite about him which, particularly with players coming over from the Spanish league, you want to see early on.

“He won some good second balls, he competed in a tough game, and we’re really impressed with him.

“[He] Could have got on the score sheet a couple of times, so all-round good display from him.”
