Ed Woodward driven to Man Utd training amid transfer interest in three stars including Alexis Sanchez
Speaking last week, he said: “Alexis has come in and trained well. Of course he’s four or five weeks behind the boys and has not played apart from the one behind closed doors here.
“I think he’ll see this [Romelu Lukaku’s exit] as an opportunity to make his mark. I do expect him to stay, there’s a striker there we think is going to be able to score some goals.”
Sanchez is eager to leave the club in a bid for regular football after a difficult 18 months.
United bigwig Woodward wants a permanent deal to get Sanchez’s hefty wages off the bill.
A subsidised loan move is more likely, however, if a permanent option further down the line can be agreed.
Sanchez is unlikely to be the only fringe player in Solskjaer’s squad moved on before the transfer window slams shut across Europe on September 2.
Marcos Rojo is being eyed by Fenerbahce while Inter Milan fancy Matteo Darmian but could wait until he becomes a free agent next summer.
When asked if there could be departures due to continental clubs having more time, Solskjaer said: “There might be, yes.
“The thing is it’s not about who we don’t want here, it’s about who we want here, and you’re going to see that in the team selections and who’s going to be with us in the long run.”
