Liverpool fan spots something unusual involving Roberto Firmino in Super Cup training | Football | Sport

Liverpool are set to face Chelsea on Wednesday night in the UEFA Super Cup final in the fixture’s first all-English clash.

With the two sides currently preparing for the final in Istanbul, one die-hard Liverpool fan spotted something interesting about forward Roberto Firmino.

While manager Jurgen Klopp put his side through their paces, Firmino was weirdly seen wearing a training top sporting Dejan Lovren’s number six.

Everyone else either had their own squad number or an unnumbered shirt on except for the Brazilian.

This comes with Lovren ommitted from the Super Cup squad as rumours continue to swirl over a potential move to AS Roma.

Lovren did not travel to Istanbul with the squad, with Klopp insisting the Croatian was only missing because of illness and not an impending transfer.

When asked directly if the World Cup finalist would be leaving Liverpool, Klopp told reporters: “No idea.

“We will see what happens. He is ill.”

Roma are said to be on the verge of agreeing a £15million deal which would leave Liverpool short of senior centre-back options.

Virgil van Dijk is the Reds’ defensive lynchpin and will be partnered by either Joe Gomez or Joel Matip over the course of the season.

However, both Gomez and Matip have struggled with injuries, meaning youngster Ki-Jana Hoever could have a role to play with the first team.

The 17-year-old made his Liverpool debut last year in the FA Cup Third Round clash with Wolves but the ex-Ajax trainee is yet to make a Premier League appearance.

The European curtain-raiser between Liverpool and Chelsea pits the Champions League winners against the Europa League winners at the start of every season.

Liverpool are coming into the fixture full of confidence after beating recently promoted Norwich City 4-1 in their opening Premier League fixture.

On the other hand, Chelsea will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Manchester United.

Liverpool have secured Super Cup glory on three occasions in their history, while Chelsea have claimed the prize once.
