Ian Wright predicts where Tottenham will finish this season – Arsenal fans won’t be happy | Football | Sport

Both Arsenal and Tottenham made several impressive signings during the summer transfer window, with both on course to push for a top four Premier League finish.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men finished fourth last time out as they reached the Champions League final, with Arsenal slipping to fifth.

Wright, who won the title with Arsenal in 1997/98, thinks Spurs could finish above either Liverpool or Manchester City.

“For me, it’s not shocking, I think it is possible [top-two finish],” Wright told the BBC.

“You look at the Spurs team, especially with Tanguy Ndombele, not sure what’s happening with Christian Eriksen, Giovani Lo Celso.

“The fact is, they have to keep players fit.”

Wright mentioned that Tottenham will have a better chance of success if Eriksen remains at the club, and Darren Bent is confident that he will.

Bent told Football Insider: “It’s massive that he [Eriksen] is still there.

“That’s almost like a new signing, now you think to yourself if they let him go, who do they bring in?

“Now me knowing Daniel Levy like I do, I can’t really see him letting someone like Christian Eriksen, someone of his quality, go without having someone to replace him.

“Maybe if they got a Philippe Coutinho or a Paulo Dybala in, then they probably would have done it but they can’t do anything because the window’s shut.”

The 27-year-old was heavily linked to Manchester United before the Premier League window shut, but reports suggest that he has always favoured a move to Real Madrid.

Eriksen told the Danish newspaper, Ekstra Bladet in June: “I feel that I am at a stage of my career where I would like to try something new.

“I have the deepest respect for everything that is happening at Tottenham and it would not be something negative to stay.

“But I have also said that I would like to try something new.

“I hope that something will be decided this summer. That is the plan.”
