Lukas Nmecha reveals why joining Wolfsburg was better than staying at Man City
Lukas Nmecha has revealed that he left Man City this summer in search of first team opportunities and to ‘prove’ himself.
Nmecha has returned to his homeland to play for Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, where he will spend the entirety of the coming season on loan after spending last year in the Championship with Preston North End.
The striker travelled with the Blues on the pre-season tour of Asia and made three appearances, scoring against West Ham United and Yokohama FM, though he did miss the vital penalty in the shoot-out defeat to Wolves.
“I think here I get the chance to prove myself,” Nmecha told Bild on his move.
“That’s better than staying at Manchester City and maybe only playing four or five games in a season at the end.
“VfL Wolfsburg was the best team that wanted me. The club plays in three competitions, so I just want to join in.
“It’s nice and quiet here and I’ve already found many friends in the team.”
When Nmecha returns from Germany next summer he will have just a year remaining on his City contract, so he will have to make a big impression throughout the season in order to have any hope of making it at the Etihad.
