Juan Mata gives his verdict on Manchester United’s new signings
The Reds secured the signatures of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire over the summer to add some much-needed steel to their leaky back four.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also bolstered his options in the final third by landing Daniel James from Swansea City after the Wales international impressed greatly in the Championship last season.
Both Wan-Bissaka and Maguire – who won the Man of the Match award – made an instant impact as United kept a clean sheet against Frank Lampard’s men.
James also became a hit with the United faithful after coming off the bench to score on his Premier League debut, and Mata stated on his personal blog how impressed he was with the new recruits.
“It’s true that the final scoreline was probably a little flattering for what happened out on the pitch itself, but the general feeling is that we had a great second half and scored our goals at key moments,” the Spaniard penned. “Chelsea started well, dominating and having some chances, but in the end we took the three points, kept a clean sheet and there were a lot of positives.
“For example, the debuts for Harry, Aaron and Daniel (who scored as well). They have adapted very quickly to the rest of the team and I am sure they are going to offer us a lot.”
Mata also praised the electric atmosphere at Old Trafford and hopes that more impressive performances will follow from the team this season.
He added: “It was the perfect way to start and the atmosphere at Old Trafford was fantastic.
“Hopefully we’ll enjoy a lot of afternoons like this one over the coming months.”
Solskjaer will be looking to make it two wins from two in the Premier League when his side travel to Wolves on August 19.
