Praet & Perez To Start | Strongest Leicester Lineup In The New Season Including New Signings
Leicester City have experienced quite a busy transfer window this summer, notably overseeing the departure of Harry Maguire. The England international joined Manchester United, becoming the most expensive defender in the history of football.
But the Foxes have done some excellent business in the market and are showing a lot of promise as Brendan Rodgers looks to continue his impressive spell in charge of the club. And in this article, we will figure out the strongest possible lineup for Leicester, including all of their latest signings.
Kasper Schmeichel is the guaranteed number one for Leicester at the moment and is unlikely to be dethroned by backup keeper Danny Ward anytime soon.
The Foxes have brought in James Justin from Luton Town to add more depth at the right-back slot. But, there is no doubt that it will mainly be occupied by Ricardo Pereira, although both Justin and Daniel Amartey are also options. Ben Chilwell, on the other hand, is a direct pick on the opposite flank, over Christian Fuchs.
Forming a central defensive pairing could be tricky, however, following the departure of Maguire. We expect Caglar Soyuncu to be integrated to a prominent role in the first-team this season, alongside Jonny Evans at centre-back. However, the Turk could face stiff competition from veteran Wes Morgan as well as Filip Benkovic, who returned from his loan spell at Celtic and has worked under Rodgers before.
Wilfred Ndidi is definitely the strongest option in the holding midfield role. The Nigerian international has the aggression as well as the tenacity to provide defensive support for the backline. Besides, his distribution could help Youri Tielemans in the double pivot.
Speaking of Tielemans, he has been a massive coup for Leicester this summer, notably coming in on for a fee of €45 million. His composure and all-round skills could be useful for the Foxes in their bid to dominate the opposition in midfield.
New signing Dennis Praet could be deployed as an attacking midfielder, which, in turn, will force James Maddison to shift into a wider attacking role, preferably on the left.
Another new signing Ayoze Perez could be deployed on the opposite flank. But, the Spaniard is likely to move into a central role considering his goal poaching tendencies. And finally, the Leicester City attack will be spearheaded by Jamie Vardy.
The English international scored 18 goals during the 2018/19 campaign and would be itching to get things underway in this new season. He is by far the best choice in attack, even though Rodgers boasts two other options in Islam Slimani and Kelechi Iheanacho.
