Romelu Lukaku says ‘thank you and good luck’ to Manchester United after completing Inter Milan transfer
Lukaku leaves United for a deal rising to £73m, signing a five year contract at the San Siro. His exit comes after a difficult pre-season that saw him travel to Australia and Asia but fail to play any friendlies for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
Lukaku, 26, was a divisive figure during his time at United, as a fine scoring record – 42 goals and 13 assists in 96 appearances – was coupled with a playing style that did not suit Solskjaer‘s tactics.
“I’m really happy to be here,” he wrote. “Thank you for the support.”
He will be remembered most fondly for his role in United’s famous comeback win at PSG in last season’s Champions League, and now Lukaku has sent a personal message to the fans, players and staff at United.
On Instagram, he posted a photo from his first season at Old Trafford celebrating a goal, writing: “To everyone involved with Manchester United – from the board to the manager and his staff, the players, and the fans. Thank you and good luck for the future @manchesterunited.”
