Man Utd identify Romelu Lukaku replacement as Inter Milan chase striker | Football | Sport
The Serie A giants have been linked with a £75m move for Lukaku this summer.
The striker has reportedly been looking for a way out of Old Trafford after being told that he’ll be playing second fiddle to Marcus Rashford next year.
Dembele had a successful season in Ligue 1 last year, scoring 15 goals in 33 appearances for Lyon.
The French giants signed the 23-year-old from Celtic in 2018, in a £20m.
“I still have another four years on my contract,” he said in June. “I will be at Lyon next season.”
Meanwhile, United are willing to sell Lukaku this summer to free up more transfer funds.
The club have already rejected a £54m bid from Inter Milan, as they want to recoup the £75m they splashed on the Belgian in 2017.
Lukaku travelled with the United squad for their pre-season tour of Asia, but has failed to feature in any of their matches through injury.
If United do sign Dembele, it would fit into Solskjaer’s long-term plan at the club of attracting talented youngsters.
United have already signed 21-year-olds Daniel James from Swansea and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace.
Solskjaer has already revealed that he hopes to complete a few more deals before the end of the transfer window.
