Kenneth Zohore reveals how Slaven Bilic convinced him to join West Brom

Slaven Bilic was instrumental in Kenneth Zohore quitting Cardiff City and joining West Bromwich Albion, the striker has revealed.

Zohore joined the Baggies in an £8million transfer last week to become the club’s second summer signing following the loan acquisition of Croatian midfielder Filip Krovinovic. Defender Semi Ajayi has since arrived from Rotherham United to take Bilic’s summer haul to three.

And Zohore has explained how new Baggies boss Bilic convinced him to quit Championship rivals Cardiff for The Hawthorns.

“He told me that they believed in me and that I was a good fit for the team,” Zohore said.

“I came here because he wanted to play. That’s what I liked about the style he told me about. They wanted me and I could feel it when I spoke to them. It was easy to make the decision.

“That means everything, especially as a striker if you have a manager that believes in you, it’s a big thing. I’m excited, it’s a big club.”

It was quick turnaround for Zohore after his transfer was made official on Friday. The 25-year-old Dane didn’t have chance to train with his new teammates before making his debut in the club’s 4-0 pre-season friendly win over Scunthorpe United on Saturday afternoon.

Zohore played the final 30 minutes at Glanford Park to build on two outings for Cardiff earlier this month.

“I’ve played two games – 45 minutes and 70 minutes – but I haven’t been on the pitch for a few days now,” he continued. “This was my first day with the team so it was kind of weird. But it’s good to be back playing.”

The brilliant Slaven Bilic story West Brom fans must READ

At £8million Zohore becomes Albion’s biggest transfer outlay since the £15million signing of fellow attacker Oliver Burke two years ago. He’s also taken the club’s famous number nine shirt following Salomon Rondon’s departure to Chinese Super League outfit Dalian Yifang.

But Zohore, naturally a laid back character, isn’t feeling any pressure to find the net.

Asked whether he’ll set any targets for the forthcoming season, Zohore – who’s scored 21 times in his last 65 outings in the Championship – replied: “No. Even assists are good. I’m just going to try and help us win and if it means someone else scores I’m going to be just as happy.”
