Steve Bruce nearing first signing as Newcastle boss as Magpies chiefs in transfer talks | Football | Sport
The transfer is likely to break Newcastle’s club-record fee paid, surpassing the £21million spent on Miguel Almiron in January.
Magpies boss Bruce is currently awaiting positive news as the striker edges closer to agreeing personal terms with the club.
Hoffenheim said the deal was close to being completed, but there are still a few t’s to cross, and i’s to dot.
Hoffenheim’s director of football, Alexander Rosen, said: “We are on the home stretch, but not over the finish line.
“There are things in contracts and clearing processes that take more than 24 hours.”
They currently only have Yoshinori Muto and Dwight Gayle as the only recognised strikers in their squad.
Hoffenheim boss Alfred Schreuder has also revealed that Joelinton will be leaving the club this summer.
“Of course it is a pity that he leaves,” said Schreuder this week.
“It’s not my decision, that’s what the club does.
“It’s always the same in football: when players leave, it also opens up room for other players, and of course it’s a shame he’s leaving, but it’s also a matter of philosophy.”
The Brazilian made 28 appearances in the Bundesliga, scoring seven goals, and providing seven assists.
He’s yet to be called up to the Brazil senior squad, but he’s made four appearances for the under-17s, scoring two goals.
At 22 years old, Joelinton still has a number of years until he reaches his peak potential.
