Claims Wolves are interested in this Aston Villa target – and it involves Jorge Mendes
Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in bringing Lille striker Rafael Leao to Molineux, according to reports in Portugal.
Nuno Espirito Santo is in the market for a forward, with little depth behind first choice pairing Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota.
A whole host of strikers have been linked with a switch to Wolves, including AC Milan striker Patrick Cutrone, who the club are said to be in ‘advanced talks’ with.
And now Leao is said to be the latest striker piquing Wolves bosses interests. The 20-year-old has only been with the French club for one season after, along with Rui Patricio, he left Sporting following a training ground attack.
Aston Villa and Everton have been linked with Leao, who scored eight goals in the French top division top term, but Mendes’ involvement has reportedly led Wolves, AC Milan, Inter and Valencia to declare an interest.
At present, Mendes is reportedly trying to push his new client towards La Liga and Valenica, where he also has a close relationship with the club’s top brass.
The report suggests that Valencia could be prepared to bid €35m for Leao, but have already spent big on a striker in the shape of Maxi Gomez in this window.
Wolves meanwhile have still yet to bring a new arrival to the club, with the permanent signings of Jimenez and Leander Dendoncker the only notable transfer moves.
Jimenez, who missed the club’s trip to China, is set to return to training this week after being given an extended break following his international exploits in the Gold Cup. It remains to be seen whether he will be available for Wolves’ competitive curtain raiser when they host Crusaders on Thursday night.
