Arsenal boss Unai Emery promises new signings are coming after Fiorentina pre-season win | Football | Sport
The Gunners dominated the game against Fiorentina in Charlotte, North Carolina, with youngster Eddie Nketiah scoring a double before Joe Willock added to the scoring.
Arsenal fielded a weak line-up against the Italian side, with Emery opting to make 11 changes throughout the game.
Nketiah was impressive throughout the game, as Arsenal fans begged Emery to keep the youngster in and around the first team this coming season.
Emery was noncommittal on whether or not Nketiah will be included this season, but did hint at more signings to come.
Arsenal are still trying to sign Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha, while centre-back William Saliba is set to be confirmed as their second signing of the summer any day now.
Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos is also expected to be signed on loan, with Gunners owner Stan Kroenke expected to meet Florentino Perez for crunch talks.
Speaking after Arsenal’s win over Florentina, Emery hinted that he is positive that more signings will be made soon.
“We are preparing every player. Some players missed the chance to come [on tour],” he said.
“The players that are here maybe the moment is for them to show how we can use them to help us now.
“We know with our experience last year it’s positive to continue in our way. We were only one point of the top four.
“I am positive to sign some good players to help us. We are working very well. I’m happy with the players.”
Centre-back Laurent Koscielny is set to leave the club after handing in a transfer request, but Emery didn’t seem concerned about losing the club captain.
After the game, he confirmed that he would continue to field a back four next season.
“We worked last year with both systems and changed it a lot because the quality of players. Sometimes we need to protect the full-backs,” he continued.
“We tried last year to play with four and three. Now I want to be working with both systems because sometimes we can achieve a very big performance with Monreal and Kolasinac playing together.
“Playing a back four with Monreal at centre-back, it’s not the best position for him. Kolasinac I want to improve his performances in all but above all we are working to be strong in a four.”
