Ole Gunnar Solskjaer prepared to make surprise decision to seal third Man Utd signing | Football | Sport

Manchester United are expected make at least three more signings before the transfer window shuts, having already bought Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka for a combined £68million from Swansea and Crystal Palace, respectively.

Solskjaer is keen on bringing in young players to aid his current ageing squad.

Leicester’s Harry Maguire is top of United’s wish list, with the club desperate to resolve their defensive issues.

But the Red Devils are also being linked with Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes, as well as Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, whose United side are in Singapore for pre-season, has confirmed that the club are working on a couple of deals, and also hinted at possible travel plans, should a deal need serious negotiation.

“As I’ve said and answered a few times, we’re working on one or two cases,” the Norwegian said.

“But obviously my objective now when I’m here is we’ve got to get ready for the games and training sessions.

“And if I’ve got to travel somewhere I will. And you won’t be able to ask me.

“We’re working on putting a squad together that can compete.

“Of course we have some youngsters but we have loads of players that can play and loads of ways we can play, if there’s a slight change of system is possible.

“Of course we’re always on the lookout for good players.

“And I’ve been impressed with a few. So we do have players that we are watching and following and when we feel they are ready we’ll maybe try to make them come to Man United.”

Midfield star Paul Pogba could yet leave the club after revealing his aspirations to seek a new challenge with another club.

Sporting’s Fernandes may be brought in as a replacement but Solskjaer, ideally, wants both Pogba and the Portuguese international in his team.

Longstaff will only leave Newcastle if United can meet the Magpies’ valuation, which stands at around £50m.
