Brendan Rodgers makes shock Harry Maguire decision as Man Utd talks continue

That is according to Sky Sports Midlands reporter Rob Dorsett, who claims the Leicester boss does not see value in the current market.

Maguire looks close to joining United for around £80m this summer, as both clubs continue to negotiate a fee.

Leicester have been linked with moves for Brighton’s Lewis Dunk and Burnley’s James Tarkowski in recent weeks.

But it looks like Maguire may not be replaced at the King Power stadium should he depart before the August 8 transfer deadline.

“Been told #lcfc have no immediate plans to replace Harry Maguire if he leaves for #mcfc or #mufc,” tweeted Dorsett.

“Club and Rodgers don’t see value in market for defenders right now eg #burnley Tarkowski, #bhafc Dunk, and want to give [Caglar] Soyuncu and [Filip] Benkovic opportunities alongside Morgan and Evans.”

Maguire has reportedly told Leicester he wants them to allow his move to Old Trafford.

But the Foxes are standing firm over their valuation of the England international.

Leicester face Scunthorpe this evening, with Maguire expected to miss out.

And Rodgers explained his thought process ahead of tonight’s friendly.

“We’re going to play two 45 minutes so lots of players will get the opportunity to play and get their first taste of football this season and I’m looking forward to it,” he explained.

“This phase now is just about the preparation so it’s about building that football fitness. Like I said, they’re not in the position where they can go for that 90 minutes yet.

“It’s about taking those first steps into game situations and it’s all about football fitness, but of course there’s a tactical element to it.

“We’re continuously working on tactical items over the course of pre-season and that will be the first chance we have to see it under a little bit of pressure.”

Leicester take on Scunthorpe this evening at 7.30pm.
