Eden Hazard makes Real Madrid request as team-mate refuses to give up shirt number
Upon his arrival, the Belgian is said to have asked for his favoured No 10 shirt.
However Luka Modric, the man who currently occupies that jersey, wasn’t keen to give it up.
But Madrid striker Mariano, who is adamant he does not want to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, is also unwilling to give up his number for Hazard.
Marca claim the winger will now take the ’23’ shirt – famously worn by David Beckham during his time in Spain.
However, Hazard‘s reasoning is not because of the former England captain.
Marca claim the 28-year-old wants the No 23 shirt because of his favourite basketball stars Michael Jordan and LeBron James.
The former wore it while playing for the Chicago Bulls.
While James has made it famous during his stints at the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Hazard may be getting ready for life as a ‘Galactico’ this season.
But former Fenerbahce chief Hasan Cetinkanya has claimed the Turkish outfit will one day sign the former Lille star.
“Eden Hazard is an old friend of mine, I’ve known him since he was 15 or 16 years old and still played for Lille,” he told Turkish outlet Ajansspor.
“He had incredible sympathy for Fenerbahce and gave me his word: ‘Hasan, one day I’ll play for Fenerbahce, I just do not know when that will be’.
“He was 16 when he played for Lille, they had him, Gervinho and [Moussa] Sow, but we could only attract Sow to us, and then Hazard reached a different dimension, he was one of the greatest talents in Europe, and I wish he had, time will tell, Eden Hazard will one day play for Fenerbahce.”
