Why Laurent Koscielny decision could be huge blow to Arsenal and Wilfried Zaha transfer | Football | Sport

Koscielny wants to leave Arsenal and return to France this summer.

The Gunners announced on Thursday the Frenchman has refused to travel with the squad for the pre-season trip to the USA.

An official statement on the Arsenal website read: “Laurent Koscielny has refused to travel to the US for our pre-season tour.

“We are very disappointed by Laurent’s actions, which are against our clear instructions.

“We hope to resolve this matter and will not be providing any further comment at this time.”

Koscielny has one year left on his Arsenal deal but wanted to have his contact mutually terminated so he could leave for free.

However, Arsenal are not keen on the idea of recouping no money for their longest serving player.

Unai Emery has made just one signing so far this summer in Brazilian striker Gabriel Martinelli.

They were already interested in signing a centre-back in the shape of Saint-Etienne’s William Saliba.

Bids have also been rejected for Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney and Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha.

But McAdam says Koscielny leaving would mean Arsenal need to sign two centre-backs which would restrict what money they have to spend elsewhere.

“This is a huge blow,” McAdam said.

“You just look at it and think ‘how will this affect the dynamic of their transfer plans?’.

“Suddenly they might not just have to buy one centre-half, they might have to buy two.

“Then how does that affect Zaha and all the deals?

“This is a real sort of blow to them.

“I think this is going to be huge for Arsenal.”
