Stefano Vecchi makes prediction on Tottenham target Nicolo Zaniolo as Spurs plot transfer | Football | Sport

That is the verdict of Italian former footballer Stefano Vecchi, who has advised the 20-year-old to prioritise game time.

Zaniolo is believed to be on Tottenham’s radar as Daniel Levy looks to follow up deals for Tanguy Ndombele and Jack Clarke.

The midfielder proved a hit at Roma last season having headed to the Stadio Olimpico as part of a swap deal for Radja Nainngolan.

Vecchi, who also began his career at Inter Milan, has now delivered a prediction on just how good the Italy international could become.

And he’s told his compatriot to ensure he takes into account how much he will play as he weighs up his options this summer.

“He is a player who can become extraordinary,” Vecchi told Tutto Mercato Web.

“He can go to Juventus and play for [the first team] and do the same at Tottenham or at Roma.

“In the capital, he certainly knows the environment and has a staff [in charge of him] where he can play more than [at] other clubs.”

Zaniolo has been tipped to trade places with Toby Alderweireld as the Tottenham defender is said to be on Roma’s wish list.

Alderweireld is available for £25m until July 26 due to a release clause in his Spurs contract.

Roma might face competition if they opt to trigger that in a bid to sign the former Ajax, Atletico Madrid and Southampton man.

Manchester United have been perennially credited with interest in the Belgian, who their former boss Jose Mourinho was a big fan of.

His compatriot, journalist Kristoff Terreur, suggested a move to Old Trafford could happen if United miss out on Harry Maguire.

“He was too old last year and he’s even older now,” Terreur said of Alderweireld.

“So I’m not surprised they haven’t gone in for him, unless they don’t get Maguire, maybe they will reconsider it.

“But I don’t think some people in the club were big fans of Alderweireld last season.

“[There has been no] concrete offers or not saying ‘we’re in for you’, nothing at the moment. But we still have three weeks.”

Alderweireld leaving Tottenham might force Mauricio Pochettino to sign a centre-back ahead of next season.
