Sheffield United win race to sign striker amid West Brom interest – reports

Sheffield United have reportedly beaten off competition from West Bromwich Albion to land Callum Robinson.

Robinson, an Aston Villa youth graduate, was also wanted by Norwich City but it appears Chris Wilder has won the race for the striker’s signature.

The North End man was granted permission to leave his club’s pre-season camp in Cork to head to an unnamed Premier League club to discuss personal terms.”/>

The Daily Mail is now reporting that Slaven Bilic was prepared to pay between £7m and £10m for the 24-year-old but Robinson was lured by Premier League football.

Robinson is a full Republic of Ireland international. He enjoyed arguably his best-ever season last term, scoring 12 North End goals in 24 Championship outings at a rate of one in two.

A statement on Preston’s website said: “Preston North End can confirm they have accepted a bid from a Premier League club for forward Callum Robinson.”/>

“The player has been given permission to leave the team’s Irish training camp in order to discuss personal terms and undertake a medical ahead of a proposed move.

“There will be no further comment from the club at this time.”

It’s believed Aston Villa are due a sell-on clause from the Robinson transfer having sold the player back in 2016.
