Manchester United warned against making same transfer mistake – ‘It’s irresponsible’ | Football | Sport

Real Madrid want to sell Gareth Bale to recuperate some of the funds they have already spent on new signings.

Zinedine Zidane has spent over £250million on five new players, with Eden Hazard the most expensive at an initial £88m from Chelsea.

But despite Real Madrid‘s desire to get rid of Bale, the Welshman is happy to stay put and see out the rest of his contract which expires in 2022.

Manchester United have been long-term admirers of Bale and wanted him before he left Tottenham for the Bernabeu in 2013.

Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett said this week he could see the 29-year-old fitting in at Old Trafford but claimed a deal was very unlikely.

Liverpool legend Steve Nicol believes it would be wrong for United to take on someone with the wages of Bale having already got Alexis Sanchez at the club.

Sanchez is United’s highest earner but has struggled ever since his move from Arsenal 18 months ago.

“Why would Manchester United want Gareth Bale?” Nicol told ESPN FC.

“They’ve already got one brick around their neck with Alexis Sanchez.

“Why do you want another one in Gareth Bale?

“He’s never in a million years going to be able to play a full Premier League season.

“He couldn’t do it in La Liga, how’s he going to do it in the Premier League?

“You’ve already got Sanchez.”

Alejandro Moreno agreed with Nicol and says it would be irresponsible for United to sign Bale.

“If you don’t learn from the Alexis Sanchez situation that you have sitting right there next to you and then you go and jump on Gareth Bale, it’s irresponsible,” Moreno said.

“It’s irresponsible.”
