John Terry has this message for Aston Villa fans after contract update
John Terry has urged Aston Villa supporters to ‘make their mark’ and help Villa Park become a fortress in the Premier League.
The Chelsea legend was speaking after agreeing terms on a contract extension that will now see him remain with the club until 2021.
Terry had been linked with a number of Championship clubs in recent weeks amid claims he rejected an approach from West Bromwich Albion.
The former Villa skipper arrived back on B6 when Dean Smith was appointed as head coach at the back end of last year.
Frank Lampard’s imminent Chelsea return had also raised question marks that his former skipper would follow him, but he has now allayed any of those fears.
Speaking to the club’s official site , Terry said: “I’m delighted that I have extended my contract at Aston Villa Football Club.
“I’m very thankful to the club and to the gaffer, Dean Smith for giving me the opportunity to work with him and learn from him day-in, day-out.

“I’m also very thankful for all the players and the staff and, of course, the supporters for last season.
“What a great season it was which ended in promotion at Wembley. However, the hard work starts again now. We’re back in the Premier League where we belong.”
Posting on social media after the announcement, Terry has asked supporters to get behind Smith’s newly promoted outfit.
“I’ve throughly enjoyed assisting, working and learning from the Gaffer, Richard and Cutts and look forward to doing so for the season ahead,” he added.
“Now tougher challenges are ahead as we focus on making our mark on the most competitive league in the world. I’m sure the fans will get behind us as they always do and help make Villa Park a tough place to come and play.”
