‘Clueless’ Birmingham City sent scathing message after Garry Monk sacking
David Cotterill has branded Birmingham City “clueless” over the sacking of Garry Monk.
The former Blues winger has taken aim following yesterday’s dismissal of Monk, 15 months after he was appointed manager.
Although the decision did not come as a shock with details of his strained relationship with chief executive Xuandong Ren having been made public last week, it has been met with a furious reaction such was Monk’s popularity with the fans.
Monk repaired a fractured club when he replaced Steve Cotterill in March 2018 and oversaw a dramatic upturn in form in the final weeks of that campaign to secure safety.

A transfer embargo disrupted pre-season last year but Blues were in the cusp of the play-offs at points through the season before the nine-point deduction in March created another relegation scarp.
Again Monk delivered with Blues finishing 12 points above the bottom three in 17th place and Cotterill has slammed the club for relieving the 40-year-old of his duties.
Replying to a post on Instagram by a less-than-impressed Curtis Davies, Cotterill said: “Run by people who are clueless.”
Davies, who left Blues in 2013, had himself asked: “What is happening at that club?”
Cotterill made over 100 appearances for in a three-year stint at St Andrew’s which came to an end in December 2017.
Monk’s assistant Pep Clotet has been appointed head coach on a caretaker basis and the job seems to be his if he wants it.
