How good is Aston Villa-bound striker Wesley Moraes? We asked Football Manager
The Belgian striker was in great goalscoring form domestically last season, scoring 17 goals in 48 appearances in all competitions, including goals in both the Champions League and the Europa League.
Villa manager Dean Smith is in need of attacking reinforcements ahead of the 2019/20 season, after last season’s top scorer Tammy Abraham returned to his parent club Chelsea this summer, after an excellent campaign last time out.
But, just how good is Wesley Moraes? And, is he as good as Abraham?
We asked highly respected football simulation game Football Manager 2019 to find out.
From injuries to what the opposition think of Aston Villa, and everything in between, we’ve got you covered on all topics claret and blue.
Wesley Moraes – Club Brugge
Current Ability: 132/200
Potential Ability: 150/200
Top Attributes (out of 20): Balance (18), strength (17), jumping reach (16), aggression (16), heading (15), movement (15), anticipation (14), decisions (14), team work (14), work rate (14) and stamina (14).
According to Football Manager 2019, Wesley’s best attributes are his physicality and aerial prowess.
He doesn’t have particularly strong finishing (12) for a forward player, but his heading (15) and jumping reach (16) make him a real threat in the air.
The 22-year-old has a current ability of 132 out of 200 on Football Manager 2019, to put this into context, that’s very similar to Tammy Abraham’s ability (133) in the game.
However, the game also has his potential ability set at 150 out of 200, this means he can improve significantly over the next few years and could become Villa’s best player by far, more highly rated than Jack Grealish (138).
Football Manager 2019 says that Wesley Moraes is a different option to what they had with Abraham, as he’s more of a target man than a technical finisher, but he would still be a great signing for Villa.
