Manchester United ‘approach Barcelona for Ivan Rakitic price tag’ – and more transfer rumours
However it has been claimed that Barca will look to sell the classy midfielder this summer after the arrival of Frenkie de Jong from Ajax.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to bring some experience and leadership to his squad as he looks to replace Andre Herrea who is joining Pairs Saint-Germain.
Rakitic, who was previously a target for Jose Mourinho at United, is thought to be happy at the Nou Camp and would only consider a switch if the Premier League side were to significantly improve his current contract.
Barca are thought to be demanding a fee of around £50million for the midfielder who also wanted by PSG last summer.
Rakitic insisted last month that the arrival of de Jong at the club will not affect his place at the club.
“I’m glad they signed him [De Jong] up,” he told Mundo Deportivo .
“First of all there is a young boy who is playing very well and I am glad that the club continues to strengthen. Every good player that can arrive, delighted.
“But also everyone has their place,” he continued. “He arrives but I am convinced that he will not arrive for my position, my position is occupied.”
Elsewhere, Sky Sports believe United will target Max Aarons if they fail to land Aaron Wan-Bissaka. According to the broadcasting company United are keen to land the Crystal Palace full-back this summer but have identified the Norwich defender as a back-up option.
Finally, The Independent claim United will prioritise Andre Onana over Jan Oblak should David De Gea depart. It is believed that the Ajax keeper is valued at around £40million while Oblak could cost up to £100m.
