Manchester United player ratings vs Bayern Munich legends: David Beckham and Paul Scholes excellent – Charlotte Duncker

Peter Schmeichel

Busier of the two goalkeepers in the first half, lasted 35 minutes after complaining of a back injury before kick off. 7

Gary Neville

Drew a good save from Hans-Jorg Butt in the first half and linked up well with Beckham down the right. 8

Jaap Stam

Not one to hold back on a crunching challenge as he reminded Ivica Olic, friendly or not. 8

Ronny Johnsen

Solid alongside Stam, well timed last minute challenge denied Olic in the second. 8

Denis Irwin

Solid stint at left back before being replaced by Silvestre in the second half. 8

David Beckham

Still a master at crossing and got a goal to seal an excellent performance. 10

Nicky Butt

Tracked back well and complemented Scholes in United’s midfield and scored United’s third. 8

Paul Scholes

Running things in midfield, encouraged to shoot whenever he got the ball, denied a goal by the offside flag in the first half. Threw a few trademark Scholes challenges in too.  9

Jesper Blomqvist

Good assist for United’s second. 7

Dwight Yorke

Great first time volley for United’s second. 8

Andy Cole

Touched the ball and was replaced by Solskjaer after 60 seconds in what was surely a planned move. 7

Subs

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Came on in the first minute for Cole and tapped it in after four minutes. Did little else before coming off for Sheringham. 8

Teddy Sheringham

Replaced Solskjaer after 25 minutes, should have scored in the second half. 7

Mikael Silvestre

Came on in the second half to replace Irwin and had a solid stint at left back. 7

Louis Saha

Nice cut back for United’s third and a tap in for United’s fourth. 7

Van der Gouw

A mere spectator. 7

Jonathan Greening

Another second half sub with not much to do. 7

Karel Poborsky

Came on at half time and put in a shift, could have got an assist if Sheringham’s effort had hit the target. 8

Wes Brown

Had the last 20 minutes and was barely called into action. 7

Kevin Pilkington

Came on for the last 15 minutes  and had nothing to do. 7

Henning Berg

A late sub. 7

David May

Came on for the last 10  minutes and went straight up front. Didn’t have anything to do. 7
