Man City star Sergio Aguero reveals his Ballon D’Or pick
Sergio Aguero says Lionel Messi should win the Ballon D’Or for his showings this season.
There was some confusion in light of Aguero’s comments after Manchester City won the Premier League title on Sunday, with the forward asked about his own chances of winning the gong for the first time in his career.
“I don’t enjoy having to clarify my statements – but when I’m quoted for things I haven’t said, it must be done,” the 30-year-old tweeted. “I’ll spell it out then. No one other than Messi will be my pick for the Balon d’Or [sic] as long as he keeps on playing – particularly if he plays like he did this season.
“The question put forward to me was whether I should win the award myself this year. My reply was that I should have reached the CL [Champions League] finals if I wished to deserve it. Couldn’t be clearer, and there shouldn’t have been room for misinterpretation.”
Aguero has scored 32 goals in 46 City appearances this season, firing the Blues to success in the league and the Carabao Cup.
City will become the first team in the history of English football to win a treble of domestic trophies with victory against Watford in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday.
