LaLiga: Kiko: Atletico Madrid deserved more than a brief video from Griezmann
LaLiga Grateful for his sporting displays
Atletico Madrid legend Kiko has spoken about the manner in which Antoine Griezmann announced his imminent departure from the club.
The former player is grateful for what the French player has done in his five years under Diego Simeone but criticised his online announcement and the club’s decisions last season.
“You must know how to differentiate, from a sporting perspective he has done damage to Atleti,” he told El Larguero of Cadena Ser.
“It’s very difficult to find a player like him.
“You can’t demand strong emotion from him as he’s not a born Rojiblanco.”
The 47-year-old was disappointed in how he decided to inform supporters.
“When a club like Atletico made a big effort to retain him, they don’t deserve a brief video,” he noted.
Speaking on the 120 million euros clause that was set by the club, he feels that the hierarchy at the Wanda Metropolitano should have gone all out to keep him.
“After doing everything in their power to keep him, they should have put a buy-out clause of 500 million euros on him, made him captain and given him the keys to the stadium,” he added
