Aston Villa are hoping to avoid this Tammy Abraham transfer twist – and here’s how
RB Leipzig’s interest in Tammy Abraham rests on Aston Villa’s promotion bid, according to reports.
Villa booked their place in the Championship play-off final for the second season in a row on Tuesday night as Abraham scored the winning penalty to secure a dramatic shoot-out victory over West Bromwich Albion.
Villa will look to extend his stay in the Midlands beyond this season if they win against either Leeds United or Derby County in the final but Leipzig are waiting in the wings to make an approach for the striker if that doesn’t happen.
But that will only happen if Villa stay in the Championship, with Leipzig said to be aware they would find it difficult to compete with the offer of regular football in the Premier League under Dean Smith.
Abraham has scored 26 goals to spearhead Villa’s promotion push, including the winner in the first leg of the play-off semi final last Saturday.
Villa are keen to bring Abraham back to the club after his loan spell comes to an end but know that they must be a Premier League club in order to do so.
Chelsea could take a look at him in pre-season with a transfer ban still looming large at Stamford Bridge meaning they are unable to strengthen their misfiring forward line.
Premier League clubs have already been linked but Abraham is enjoying his stint at Villa as the focal point of Smith’s attacking line.
