Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri and Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino on AC Milan shortlist | Football | Sport

Gattuso could be shown the door if Milan don’t qualify for the Champions League, with Atalanta currently level on points in Serie A.

The Italian has had run-ins with the hierarchy at the club and it’s been claimed that AC Milan are already making plans for when Gattuso goes.

Tuttosport have reported that a four-man shortlist has been drawn up with two Premier League managers on it.

Pochettino is reportedly the favoured option with Ivan Gazidis, who is current AC Milan chief executive, well aware of the Argentinian’s capabilities.

Pochettino was linked with the Manchester United job following the sacking of Jose Mourinho however Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was handed that role.

Pochettino has since led Spurs to the Champions League semi-finals, while they are also third in the Premier League.

Sarri is also a reported option for AC Milan with his future at Chelsea believed to be in doubt.

Like Gattuso, Sarri is battling to get his side into next season’s Champions League with Chelsea currently fourth in the Premier League.

Sarri has previously worked in Italy, only leaving Napoli last summer to take charge at Stamford Bridge.

And former Blues striker Chris Sutton believes Sarri may be testing Chelsea’s patience after a number of curious decisions.

He recently said: “Sarri may get lucky again and win the Europa League.

“Even if he does — securing Champions League football in the process — this abject performance [vs Cardiff] only highlights why he cannot be the man to lead Chelsea next season.

“His decisions are becoming increasingly erratic.

“There are no easy games at this stage of a Premier League season, especially against a Cardiff side battling against relegation, so why leave out your best player?

“If Sarri wanted to rest Eden Hazard, would it not have been better to start him, win the game early on and then take him off with half an hour to go?

“The reaction of the Chelsea supporters who made the trip to South Wales shows they have lost faith in their manager.

“If they haven’t already, the board must be rapidly running out of patience, too.”
