Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Appointment Was Based On Emotion – Everton Legend

Former Everton star Andy Gray has questioned Manchester United’s appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following the Red Devils’ 4-0 drubbing at Goodison Park.

Everton were rampant against Solskjaer‘s side, running riot to lead 2-0 at the break and then adding another two goals in the second half to kill off the visitors.

Manchester United were thoroughly out-run by Everton, as the Toffees put in a huge effort, and could have been leaving Merseyside on the back of an even heavier defeat.

Solskjaer was handed the Manchester United job on a permanent basis last month, following a promising spell as interim boss, but has now hit choppy waters.

Solskjaer expects to need to rebuild, but Gray thinks the picture at Manchester United is now very different than it used to be.

The former Everton man said on beIN SPORTS Soccer Sunday: “The days that Manchester United could go and ask for someone and blow everyone else out of the water are, in my opinion, gone.

“I can think of five teams, at least four in England, that players would probably want to join before Manchester United.

“Liverpool, massive personality in charge, Man City, massive personality in charge, Tottenham, massive personality in charge, but not just personalities, fantastic coaches as well.”

Gray feels that Manchester United‘s appointment of Solskjaer has all the hallmarks of an emotional move, which he does not think should be a driving force at a big club.

“Now they’ve gone and appointed Ole, on emotion.

“It was an emotional appointment.

“If you run a massive business, whether it’s football or any business, you cannot appoint the top of that business, the men who make the decisions, on emotion”, the former Everton striker added.
