‘Connections’ Here’s what Minnesota United have said about Aston Villa’s pre-season tour
Minnesota Vikings say they are thrilled to be hosting a club the size of Aston Villa in the summer.
Villa are heading across the pond as part of their pre-season preparations and will take on Minnesota at Allianz Field on July 17.
Head coach Dean Smith has already jetted out to Minnesota to check out the facility he and his players will use during their time in the USA.
The MLS side’s head coach, Adrian Heath, had a short spell at Villa midway through his career, making nine appearances in the 1989/90 season.
“We’re thrilled to be welcoming a club with a history as rich as Villa’s to Allianz Field,” CEO Chris Wright told mnufc.com.
“From our head coach to our play-by-play commentator, we have some members of our team with ties to the club, and I’m personally excited to be bringing English football to our new home in Saint Paul.
“This event will only serve to deepen the connections between our clubs and, indeed, our connection to the game of soccer the world over.”
Villa, of course, now have an American owner in billionaire businessman Wes Edens, who bought the club in a joint venture with Egyptian Nassef Sawiris in July.
The claret and blues said: “A key element of the club’s ongoing strategy is to reach out to our fans all over the world both online and where possible in person by playing matches.”
