Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho rules out Man Utd transfer – and fans are to blame | Football | Sport
Liverpool are believed to be keeping an eye on Coutinho’s future while Chelsea may also be interested despite their transfer ban.
Coutinho shone during his time with Liverpool, coming close to winning the Premier League with the Reds in 2014.
Coutinho doesn’t want to betray his former supporters and knows a move to United would do exactly that.
Speculation surrounding Coutinho’s future has continued to grow despite the 26-year-old insisting he is happy at Barcelona.
“My head is exclusively in Barcelona,” Coutinho recently said.
“Returning to England now does not fit into my plans.
“This is my second season here. I have won titles but I am always an ambitious and demanding player. So, I want more and more.
“But I’m happy. I wanted to play in Spain and I’m at the best club in Spain.”
“I know that games against Manchester United are special.
“I learned what they meant during my time at Liverpool when we lived it so intensely with the fans.
“I have that nailed in my memory and, even though this is a different stage, if Barcelona knock United out of Europe, it will be a double personal satisfaction for me.”
Coutinho could line up against Manchester United again this week when they meet in the second leg of their last-eight tie.
The former Liverpool man was ineffective during the first leg, though will be hoping to have more of a say on home turf.
