Man City boss Pep Guardiola gives injury update on Bernardo Silva and Aleks Zinchenko
Aleks Zinchenko and Bernardo Silva face late fitness tests ahead of City’s trip to Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Bernardo played in the FA Cup semi-final last weekend and has emerged as one of City’s most important players this season. Guardiola recently stressed that he was one of the first names on his teamsheet at the moment, but a muscular injury kept him out of the Champions League defeat.
When asked about the fitness of City’s injured duo, Guardiola said: “They are feeling better, we’ll see today and tomorrow, feeling better but I don’t know about Sunday.”
On paper the game against Palace is City’s easiest of a testing run, but Guardiola has plenty of respect for the Eagles and he admits the trip to south London is a dangerous one.
“That’s true, we knew it weeks ago, how it would be between these important games,” the City boss said.
“Selhurst Park is always difficult because of the stadium and the quality of the players, they are well organised and have actions to go one one one, one on three. There are six games left we know what we are playing for and we are going to see.”
City drew at Palace last season and Roy Hodgson’s side are the only Premier League outfit to win at the Etihad this season, thanks to the shock 3-2 success three days before Christmas.
“They’ve done so well, 11 points clear (of relegation), they’ve had incredible results, quality players, one of the teams with the best quality,” Guardiola said.
“Roy Hodgson is an experienced manager with a lot of different countries, he knows how to handle these situations. Nobody felt he could stay up last season and he did it, and he’s doing the same this season.”
