Who is Ian Carlo Poveda? Man City youngster in Champions League squad vs Tottenham

Manchester City youngster Ian Carlo Poveda was a surprise inclusion in the first team training squad ahead of the Champions League quarter-final at Tottenham.

Poveda made his debut for City in January, as he started in the 1-0 Carabao Cup semi-final second leg win over Burton Albion.

The 19-year-old England youth international has been at City since joining from Brentford in 2016. He also spent time at Barcelona and Arsenal youth systems.

Poveda is a winger, contracted at City until 2021, and shone in the U21’s Checkatrade Trophy campaign this season. City beat league sides Crewe, Tranmere, Barnsley and Rochdale before losing at Sunderland the night before the first team game at Burton.

In his five Checkatrade Trophy appearances for City, Poveda scored twice – both in the 3-3 draw at Barnsley which City won on penalties.

Poveda twice finished off wonderful team moves with fantastic curling finishes, displaying his trickery and eye for goal.

He was also a key part of City’s run to the UEFA Youth League semi-finals, and was included in Pep Guardiola’s pre-season tour of the US over the summer.

He has been a key figure in City’s EDS side this season, scoring three times and assisting five goals in 21 appearances, while he has made ten appearances for England U19s to date.

Poveda has also been included in the first team set-up for some time, regularly posting on social media with senior teammates.
