Can Man City’s Bernardo Silva become better than David Silva? – We used FIFA 19 to find out
Man City fans were treated to some fantastic news yesterday, as the club announced that midfielder Bernardo Silva had signed a new three-year deal that ties him to the Etihad until the summer of 2025.
The Portugal international has been an integral part of the club’s success so far this season and is one of the first names on Pep Guardiola‘s teamsheet every week.
With David Silva approaching the autumn of his career at the age of 33, it’s widely thought that Bernardo will eventually replace the Spaniard in the long-term.
But does the 24-year-old have the potential to be better than the City legend?
We used FIFA 19 to find out.
Current ability: 90
Potential ability: 90
The Spaniard remains one of the best midfielders in world football – and FIFA 19 agrees.
Silva’s overall ability of 90 puts him at a similar level as the likes of Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Kevin De Bruyne, among the world’s elite midfielders.
The 33-year-old’s best attributes in FIFA 19 are his ball control (94), short passing (93), composure (93), vision (92), agility (92), reactions (90) and balance (90).
Along with Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany, Silva is a true City legend.
Whoever replaces him has got big boots to fill….
Current ability: 86
Potential ability: 91
Silva joined the club in the summer of 2017 from Monaco for a reported fee of £43.5 million, which has since proven to be an absolute bargain price.
In his first season, the Portuguese international largely played second-fiddle to Raheem Sterling on the right wing, as he adjusted to the demands of Premier League football.
This season, due to De Bruyne’s injury at the start of the campaign, Silva was drafted in to central midfield – and his performances have been extraordinary.
He’s added an intense work rate and determination to his immense technical ability, which has made him a real fan favourite at the Etihad.
The 24-year-old is still some way off David Silva’s ability, according to FIFA 19, with his rating at 86 overall.
However, his potential ability is 91, so he can become even better than the City legend in the future if he keeps on developing at his current rate.
The City fan favourite’s best attributes are his dribbling (92), ball control (91), agility (90), balance (88), acceleration (86), composure (86), vision (86) and stamina (86).
If FIFA 19’s ability predictions are correct, Bernardo Silva has a very bright future indeed, no wonder City wanted to tie him down.
