Manchester United face fresh competition for Portuguese starlet Joao Felix – and more transfer rumours

Manchester United will have to compete with Serie A giants Juventus and several other top European clubs for the signing of Portugal’s hottest prospect Joao Felix, according to reports.

FootballItalia claim that super agent Jorge Mendes was in attendance as the Italian champions beat Udinese 4-1 on Friday night, ‘fuelling reports he was there to discuss €120m-rated Benfica talent Joao Felix.’

As Mendes’ clients at Juve, Cristiano Ronaldo and Joao Cancelo, were not involved in the game it’s suggested that ‘his presence was for talks with the club directors’.

Felix has burst onto the scene this season, with the 19-year-old bagging 11 goals and setting up another six in 29 games.

United scouts were in attendance to watch Felix as his Benfica side fell to a 1-0 defeat against Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League on Thursday.

They weren’t alone though, as @scoutsattening report that the likes of Man City, Juventus, Wolves, Bayern Munich and Barcelona were all watching the youngster.

It’s reported that Felix has a €120m and the chase for his signature is setting up to be the transfer saga of the summer.

Meanwhile, another reported Man United target, Ajax defensive prodigy Matthijs de Ligt, has said joining Liverpool ‘could happen.’

The 19-year-old has cited his international centre-back partner, Virgil van Dijk, as a reason why he would want to join Liverpool.

Virgil is a player who has experience in the top leagues,” De Ligt told Omnisport.

“Of course you want to learn from him. ‘It’s very useful to play next to him in the Dutch team.

“It could happen [joining Liverpool]. He plays for Liverpool. A nice club.

“But I’m not focused on this. I focus on Ajax. And then I will see where I will end up.”
