Sky Sports pundit names surprise Wolves ace as Player of the Year contender
Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has named Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves among the contenders win the Player of the Year award.
Wolves’ last-gasp equaliser against Newcastle United on Monday evening saw Nuno Espirito Santo’s side continue their spectacular form this season, sitting seventh in the table – below only the established top-six.
Neves is one of the Wolves players who has regularly caught the eye this season and the 21-year-old Portugal international has attracted plenty of plaudits, which former Arsenal man Nicholas believes could put him in the running for an award at the end of the season.
“I have really liked Ruben Neves in particular for Wolves. Neves merits a conversation the way Wolves have played and he has been fabulous,” he told Sky Sports .
“I am going to put Neves in there as a surprise package, and I have really enjoyed watching him this season, so he makes the list of three.”
Neves was joined on Nicholas’ three-man shortlist by Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk and Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling.
