Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explains Manchester United line up vs PSG

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has explained the reasoning behind his team selection to face Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.

Manchester United have made five changes for the Champions League fixture with Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard returning to the team having missed out on a start against Fulham at the weekend.

Ashley Young returns to captain the side, while Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof are both back in the squad having sat out the win at Craven Cottage.

Key injuries for the opposition mean United go into the first-leg with fresh hope of a positive result, and speaking ahead of the game Solskjaer insisted his team selection is planned with the intentions of playing to their own attacking strengths.

“We know Anthony’s quality going forward and hope he’s going to create chances for us from the left-hand side and show us what he can do. We have to be clinical, of course, and it’s important we get to Paris with a chance to go through,” Solskjaer told BT Sport.

Supporters appear to be delighted with the decision to bring Bailly back into the team with Lindelof particularly after the duo kept their first clean sheet as a pair against Leicester their last time out.

Chris Smalling and Phil Jones kept a clean sheet at the weekend, and the Norwegian coach has explained why he took the decision for Bailly to partner Lindelof in the heart of defence.

“They’ve done well together in a few games. Of course, against [Kylian] Mbappe, they need to be on top of their game,” said Solskjaer.
