Manchester United and PSG combined XI put together by Premier League boss Claude Puel
Perhaps by virtue of being French and working in the Premier League, Claude Puel has been asked for his combined team featuring players from Manchester United and PSG ahead of their Champions League clash on Tuesday night.
However, he was only able to chose out of the players who will be available for the game so he couldn’t pick Neymar, Edinson Cavani and Adrien Rabiot, though he insisted all three would be in his side if he could.
The first big call Puel had to make was in the sticks and the 57-year-old opted for David De Gea over Gianluigi Buffon due to being a lot younger than the legendary Italian, saying that De Gea “is decisive and does not make mistakes.”
Remaining consistent with his youth policy Puel then chose 33-year-old Ashley Young at right-back over 22-year-old Thilo Keher as he believes the young German is a more of a central defender and he prefers a ‘specialist’ in the right-back slot.
PSG’s Brazilian pair Thiago Silva and Marquinhos were then selected in centre-back, with Luke Shaw taking up position on the left flank.
The midfield consisted of Nemanja Matic in the sitting role, though he was only in the side in the absence of Rabiot.
Man Utd vs PSG build-up
The front three is a very exciting looking one indeed, with Frenchmen Kylian Mbappe and Anthony Martial on either flank with the ‘very complete attacker’ Marcus Rashford down the middle.
Claude Puel’s combined XI – 4-3-3
David De Gea; Ashley Young, Thiago Silva, Marquinho, Luke Shaw; Marco Verratti, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Kylian Mbappe, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial.
