Liverpool news: Philippe Coutinho and Luis Suarez claim made over Reds star | Football | Sport

That’s according to BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks, who picked Firmino in his team of the week.

That’s despite the Brazilian failing to find the net in Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Reds beat the Cherries thanks to goals from Sadio Mane, Georginio Wijnaldum and Mohamed Salah.

It moved them back to the top of the Premier League, where they sit three points clear of Manchester City.

Suarez and Coutinho were both key figures in their time at Anfield before each moving to Barcelona.

And Crooks has praised Firmino for having a similar impact to the duo.

“I could have picked any one of the ‘red arrows’ against Bournemouth,” he wrote for BBC Sport.

“Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino were all magnificent and could have made my team.

“I’ve gone for Firmino because, without him, the team doesn’t function quite the same.

“He makes Liverpool tick in the same way Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho used to.

“I also selected him just to prove (as rumour has it) that you don’t have to score goals to make my team.”

Despite Liverpool being three points clear of Man City, Reds hero Graeme Souness believes his former side need to win every game if they are to lift the title.

“Beating Bournemouth has not confirmed they are back at their best,” Souness said.

“This result from City [beating Chelsea 6-0] has shown they are bang at it and this is how they will finish the season.

“If that’s their form going into the end of the season, Liverpool have to win every game.

“That’s what they are looking at.

“They’ve won 6-0, it was nearly 50-50 possession but were they really that good?

“I think they were – in the areas that mattered.”
