‘It’s a dying thing’ What Leeds United, Norwich and Middlesbrough are saying as promotion race hots up

Tonight marks the beginning of another imperative round of fixtures at the top of the Championship.

West Brom made good ground on their rivals at the weekend, as Middlesbrough, Sheffield United and Leeds all failed to win their respective matches.

Norwich City hammered Ipswich on Sunday to take the lead at the top of the division, while Bristol City pulled off yet another win – this one an impressive victory at Blackburn.

The Blades and Boro face off this week, while Albion welcome Nottingham Forest and Leeds take on Swansea.

This is what is being said.

NORWICH CITY v Preston (a)

The fans

Daniel Emery: Worried for Preston. They like to be aggressive and Tettey will just back off and let them build pressure on us. Trybull can’t do it on his own. Sooner Leitner/Vrancic get back the better.

Matthew Garratt: Pleased to see Alex Neil say nice things about @NorwichCityFC. I really enjoyed his time here as manager, it was a shame it ended the way it did. I hope he has a successful season with Preston, just not on Wednesday!

Matt Johnson: Preston is going to be an altogether different an more difficult test on Wednesday. A few forced changes potentially as well for #ncfc . Preston not lost for 5 games. Like Barkhuizen & Browne a lot. Gallagher loves a goal against us too. Gotta make sure we are on it.

Dave Clarke: Beat Preston on Wednesday and regardless oh how the binners do against Derby they cannot finish above us…and it’s only February

Daniel Farke

“We are unbelievably respectful [of Preston] because we know that it’s going to be the most difficult game we’ve had in recent weeks.

“We had outstanding games at Leeds, West Brom and against Sheffield United and in the East Anglian derby.

“Now to go to Preston who always play with a big aggressiveness and high intensity – they’re a really good side and have some good footballers.

“They almost pushed into the play-offs at the end of last season. They’ve only lost once in their last eight games in the league and they have no pressure right now.

“They will be highly-motivated and they have had one game more to recover than us. It will be unbelievably difficult task at Preston and we have to be at our best.”

LEEDS UNITED v Swansea (h)

The fans

Strong Bowyer: we beat swansea hopefully weds and boro draw with shef utd. be a reyt result

LufcDamo: Six points now from Swansea and Bolton yeah. Thanks lads @LUFC

DavidK: I just hope we smash Swansea on Wednesday, kind of feels like a humid day and you just need some thunder to clear the air and make it all fresh again

Lee Tate: It’s a must win game against Swansea !!! Think about what they did to us on Transfer day !!! #LUFC

Ashley Earnshaw: Would love it if @LUFC beat Swansea on Wed, not just because it would be a huge 3 points but after the whole Dan James scenario. Feel it’s only a matter of time before everything just clicks again and we give a team a bit of a hammering, have a feeling it could be this week

Anthony: Had some luck with other results this season, about time too but 3 points against Swansea is a must #lufc absolutely hate waiting around for a game, it don’t half drag.

Marcelo Bielsa

“We all agree with the fact that in the Championship you don’t have any easy games.

“And we know that’s it’s difficult to have a continuity in the good results. It’s not frequent.

“And you don’t win many games with a huge difference in the score. We’re not sure either that the teams at the top of the table are going to win against the teams at the bottom of the table.

“All those who analyse the results of the Championship know this and know that each game is important. And it’s very difficult to draw conclusions.

“For me Swansea is a big team. It’s a team that hasn’t used its full potential so far. It’s a team inside the championship that has a counter-culture.

“They have players very good with the ball. And I like how Swansea plays.”

SHEFFIELD UNITED v Middlesbrough (h)

The fans

Travelling Blade: Sounds like the lads have responded really well to Friday night’s disappointing capitulation. Expecting an inspired performance tomorrow night at the Lane.

Billy Hayes: Simon Moore to start? McGoldrick in for Madine? Duffers must also be pushing for a start, though Dowell was different class at Villa. Way Pulis sets up, speed kills and Hogan has plenty. Most likely from the bench.

Kyle: Get down to the lane! The lads need an atmosphere on Wednesday in a huge game.

Carl Newman: MASSIVE blow to not have Basham for the next 2 games. I genuinely think he’s the only player in the squad that is irreplaceable when injured/suspended. We don’t have a single other player that gets up and down the pitch like Bash

Chris Wilder

“It’s a dying thing, isn’t it. People say you can’t say ‘this’ or ‘that.’ But I can and I will. Tony is the same, he’s magnanimous in victory and very gracious in defeat. He tells it like it is.

“It comes from the acceptance of the group and there’s no bigger supporter of that group than me. It comes from the characters within it.

“We’re just honest. If people make mistakes, people see them. There’s no point in pretending they haven’t happened. “They’re an honest group, that’s a great quality to have, and that’s something we do look at in terms of recruitment. They understand if something has to be said, it will be said. But they also know they’ve got our backing.”

WEST BROM v Nottingham Forest (h)

The fans

Howard Baker: Nothing like a game under the lights! Come on you baggies! #wba

Ollie Smith: Can’t wait for the amazing football that’ll be on display tonight down @WBA. Apparently some other teams are playing around Europe in this #ChampionsLeague thing.

Tom: Im not going to under estimate the challenge of tonight. Forest are a very good team, and will be one of our biggest test at home yet. Will be a close game, but boy we need a massive performance and 3 points. Dont care how we get the 3 points, aslong as we get them. #wba

David Weighell: Love a night game at the Hawthorns. It is the reason I fell in love with football and the Albion, in particular, all those years ago #wba

Jay Rodriguez of West Bromwich Albion celebrates

Darren Moore

“We’re playing another good team in this division who are in the top half of the table.

“The new management team has gone in there and they have an array of talented individual players, and what Martin is doing is bringing them together as a group.

“It will be another good game on Tuesday night at The Hawthorns. We’re playing against real stern opposition.

“It’s always good to play in front of your home fans. Hopefully they will be in good voice as they have been. I echo the same messages to the supporters; come and be heard. Be in full voice. There’s no place like The Hawthorns when it’s at full volume.

MIDDLESBROUGH v Sheffield United (a)

The fans

SandDancer: Well I thought we would beat Leeds and should have and I am going for a BORO win 2-1. Why over the last three games have I thought positively about BORO?

BoroDane: Don’t know why but I think we will win this one. For some odd reason and I can’t quite say why. Think the squad might have got some belief back from 4 points against WBA and Leeds and looking at the table we can ill afford to drop points.

Lee Huskinson: Remember when loads moaned because we were signing another midfielder (Mikel) and another stick to beat Pulis with? Can you now see why TP wanted him?

Tony Pulis

“We’ve played two games and got four points and now we’ve got a big game against Sheffield United on Wednesday who are flying.

“It’s always difficult going to Bramall Lane and it will be another tough game for us and we have to make sure to stand up and give it the best we possibly can.

“The players have got to give the supporters something to shout about and I think they did (on Saturday).

“It was lovely to see a full house here, it was lovely to hear the atmosphere and they make a difference at every club I’ve been at, when you get the supporters behind your team.”

BRISTOL CITY v QPR (h)

The fans

Dan Smith: Looking strong again but it’s the depth that has me confident at the moment. So many good options off the bench

Miles Hanney-Davis: Under the lights is always special… but under the lights bang in form… another level

JH: Wolves and their late goals! Must attempt to get revenge on Sunday. Looking forward to tomorrow night first though. Love this squad.

Elhombrecito: I have to admit that I haven’t felt this excited about a home game in quite a while. Presumably this means that we will put in the worst performance of the season, and lose miserably?

Dean Holden

“The mood’s very good but at the same time we don’t get to carried away. We’re not throwing parties down at the training ground because we’ve won a few games.

“And equally we might be losing or drawing a few games and everyone’s not walking around all doom and gloom.

“I think that one of our strengths this season has been our consistent approach win lose or draw and at the moment the lads are taking the work we do on the training pitch into games. Everyone is contributing. I think we saw it again at the weekend: lads coming off the bench and contributing. Eros on Saturday and it’s happened in recent weeks.

“Everybody’s playing a part and we move on quickly onto another tough game against QPR.”
