Gianluigi Buffon: Man Utd fans brand legendary goalkeeper WEAK LINK for PSG | Football | Sport
The Italian started for the French outfit tonight at Old Trafford in the first leg of the last 16 clash.
Buffon, 41, is one of the greatest goalkeepers of all-time but fans think he may be on the decline.
He made one early save from Marcus Rashford but supporters are still unconvinced by his talents.
One tweeted: “One PSG weakness here is Buffon thinking he’s Ederson.”
Another added: “Forget legend status, Buffon is a liability for PSG in goal. We need to pull lots of shots at him.”
A third explained: “Buffon is a legend and all that, but he has time that I see that it costs. They’ve put goals where it looks bad. I wouldn’t be surprised if he swallowed a goal by his mistake.”
Buffon is desperate to win the Champions League before he retires though.
“For me the Champions League will forever be the highest level, the best tournament to play in,” Buffon explained.
“I say thank you for all the emotion that the Champions League has given me.
“But I hope to have another opportunity to win it because it would be the perfect end to my career.”
Before the match Buffon did admit PSG would miss the injured Neymar though who currently has a broken metatarsal.
“I think this is a problem for us,” the Italian said. “I’m not sure if it’s a big problem or a little one. I hope it’s only a small problem and that we nevertheless as a team thrive without him.
“This would give us great strength and confidence. But I must say that without a player of Neymar‘s calibre, it’s going to be heavy going.
“Particularly because in the last two or three months he’s been in excellent condition – both physically and mentally – and he would have been of enormous help.
“Nevertheless, we have to do our best in order not to have any regrets and play the quarter-finals and semi-finals with Neymar back.
“And this would be the best present we could give to him. I’m sure he would return the favour by playing in those two matches.”
