Gary Lineker names the only Arsenal player who would get in Man City side
Lineker was discussing Arsenal’s progression under new manager Unai Emery this season. After a good start the Gunners have fallen away to fifth place and are battling Manchester United and Chelsea for a Champions League place.
And Lineker says just one Arsenal player would be able to get into the City side – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
“One possibly? (Pierre-Emerick) Aubameyang? That would be it.”
However, there is a problem with Lineker’s suggestion – Sergio Aguero.
The Argentine’s hat-trick against Arsenal was his first of two in seven days, and he is the league’s joint top scorer.
He is keeping Gabriel Jesus, who himself has 16 goals in all competitions, out of the side, leaving the Brazilian wondering what he must do to be considered first choice.
So despite Aubameyang’s quality, the chances are he would struggle to get into the City side.
However, when Sergio Aguero does leave the club, a player of Aubameyang’s ability would be a perfect profile to fill his huge goalscoring boots. Or maybe that will be the time when Jesus steps up.
While the future of City’s strikeforce seems secure, it says a lot about their squad depth that a reasonable argument like Lineker’s is such a non-starter.
